As a photographer, I'm passionate about creating images that truly reflect the love and connection between couples. Forget stiff poses and forced smiles – I'm all about capturing those authentic, candid moments that tell their unique story. A huge part of achieving that magic happens before the engagement session even begins.
So, how do we ditch the poses and embrace the moments? It starts with connection. Think of your engagement session not just as a photoshoot, but as a fun date where you get to know your couple. I always prioritize getting to know my couples on a personal level. This can involve a face-to-face meeting (coffee is always a great idea!), a relaxed phone call, or even a fun questionnaire.
Why is this so important? Because the more I know about a couple, the better equipped I am to capture their true personalities. What makes them laugh? What are their shared passions? Are they adventurous and outdoorsy, or do they prefer cozy nights in? Knowing these details helps me tailor the session to their specific vibe.
My "Get to Know You" form is a game-changer. It asks about everything from how they met to their favorite things to do together. This information is invaluable! It provides me with insights that I can use to suggest locations that are meaningful to them, or even incorporate elements that reflect their shared interests. For example, if they love hiking, we might explore a scenic trail. If they're foodies, maybe we can incorporate a picnic into the session.
By taking the time to connect and learn about my couples beforehand, I create a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere during the shoot. This allows them to be themselves, to let their guards down, and to truly enjoy the experience. And that's when the magic happens. That's when the genuine smiles, the loving glances, and the spontaneous moments unfold. Those are the moments that I, as a photographer, live for. Those are the moments that create lasting memories. And those are the moments that make for truly breathtaking engagement photos.
